This site is dedicated in loving memory to Michael Aaron Nelson

April 15, 1973 - April 10, 2004

...I feel like I can enter into God's experience through his artwork. To feel what he feels by connecting with the soul of nature. Sometimes I can close my eyes and let my senses slip away from me, releasing myself from mortality's captivity to engage in experiences of light. When I open my eyes again I look out at everything that lies before me and I have love for it all. This is what draws me to the wilderness, to the soft, warm waves of the wilderness. ...The brilliance of the glacier transcends the light that illuminates one's reason. It's energy and power pierce my soul beyond the boundaries where language has meaning and logic is useful. Sitting here I feel like I am in a blissful dream, except when I pinch myself the images that play before me and the emotions that their dance provokes don't shatter under the prescnece of lucid reality. This is reality and what I feel is as real as that glacier. When it calves I can feel it's essence spill over me as if I was standing near a huge waterfall feeling it's spray. but it occurs internally, stoking the fire that burns in my heart that radiates heat through my whole body, that radiates joy, sending it rushing and swirling through my entire self. These are places that the gods inhabit. It's where the unicorns live.

Some words from Mike from a letter dated 11/2/01

____

"God is through all things, in your life and in the lives of others. God is a stranger to no one. Part of being human is knowing that, somehow, the divine exists and that it is by Faith, Hope, and Charity that we keep however we feel about the Divine secured warmly in our hearts. My hope is that we can remember that feeling, if we've forgotten it, and that we can someday all realize that we all want the same thing, what everyone has always wanted...to be with God...And that we don't have to wait.

Love, Mike"

"Light governs all things, the glacier illuminates light more deep and more powerful than any other body in nature, experiences on the glacier enlighten." Mike Nelson

"Right on, Right on!"
